The #1 mistake: only calculating COGS.

Here's what most sellers miss when calculating margin:

The FBA fee changes by size tier: A product that weighs 1.1 lbs jumps to a higher FBA fulfillment fee bracket — costing you $1–$3 more per unit. Weigh your product before you calculate.
Referral fees vary by category: Electronics: 8%. Clothing: 17%. Jewelry: 20%. Always check Amazon's fee schedule for your specific category — the default 15% is just an approximation.
Ad cost is not optional at launch: On launch, your ACOS is often 80–120% while you build reviews. Factor in $3–6/unit in ad spend for your first 200 units. It's an investment, not a cost.
Hidden costs: prep, returns, storage: FBA prep services ($0.50–1.50/unit), return processing fees, and long-term storage add another 3–8% to your real cost structure. Most sellers don't account for this.
